Maven Peal Publishes Guitar Amplifier Player’s Troubleshooting Guide

Strafford, VT—Maven Peal Instruments, Inc. is pleased to announce the publication of The Guitar Amplifier Player’s Troubleshooting Guide, the first do-it-yourself troubleshooting guide for musicians.

Any player who has been stuck at a gig or practice session with unwanted hiss, ghost notes, muddy, harsh or trebly tone; squealing or hissing; tremolo or reverb trouble; rattling or vibrating needs this guide. The Guitar Amplifier Player’s Troubleshooting Guide is the definitive source for fast answers to guitar amplifier troubles. It arms players with the information they need to quickly and effectively take on whatever amplifier problems they encounter, in whatever spot they’re in.

Author Dave Zimmerman explains “After publishing The Guitar Amplifier Player’s Guide this spring, I realized that although the Player’s Guide is an invaluable musician’s resource for getting the best tone from an amplifier, it doesn’t address the maintenance or repair issues that commonly come up for guitar players. Although I imagine some players will want to read the Troubleshooting Guide from cover to cover, its real value is that it is a fast, effective resource of solutions.”

Also available from Maven Peal are never before published business-sized Speaker Ohms and Watts Chart cards, which give you the correct impedance settings and wattages delivered to each speaker when connecting two speakers to 30, 50 and 100 watt amplifiers in both series and parallel.

The Guitar Amplifier Player’s Troubleshooting Guide is available from amazon.com, boutiquetone.com and NBS Electronics, and can also be ordered directly from Maven Peal for $44.99 by visiting books@mavenpeal.com.

Maven Peal Instruments, Inc. uses nonlinear analysis (chaos theory) to design audio and musical instrument amplifiers. For more information on The Guitar Amplifier Player’s Troubleshooting Guide, The Guitar Amplifier Player’s Guide, the Zeeta, Ganesha, RG88 or other Maven Peal products, contact Dave Zimmerman at 802-793-4847, dave@mavenpealpeal.com, or visit Maven Peal at www.mavenpeal.com.

Institute alumni Robbie Boyd writes song for Sir Tim Rice

Institute of Contemporary Music Performance alumni Robbie Boyd (Songwriting) has written a song ‘Oh Alaska’, which will be featured on Sir Tim Rice’s BBC 2 Radio programme ‘American Pie’, a series dedicated the exploration of music and musicians of each American State.

Upon hearing that Sir Tim Rice was looking for music from and about the state of Alaska, Robbie took it upon himself to research the State and write a song after being inspired by history and imagery that Alaska holds.  He recorded the song and hand-delivered the track to the producer of the show, which was followed by a call from Sir Tim Rice himself to let him know his song was selected for the Alaska programme.

Lick Library Adds Learn To Play Van Halen Volume 2 To their Catalogue

You loved the Van Halen collection so much; Lick Library just had to add Learn To Play Van Halen Volume 2 to their catalogue. With five new tracks, the 2 DVD set features over three hours of guitar lessons including covering Eddie Van Halen’s ground breaking solo techniques and killer riffs.

Van Halen is one of only five bands that have had two albums sell more than ten million copies in the USA.  Fronted by the inimitable Eddie Van Halen, who is undoubtedly one of the most influential, original and talented rock guitarists of the twentieth century, the band are getting set for the release of a new studio album and a tour in 2011.

The DVD is presented by Jamie Humphries who specializes in all things rock and is renowned for his fastidious transcriptions and awesome backing tracks. This double DVD set give you the chance for one to one guitar tuition with Jamie and is not to be missed.

Learn To Play Van Halen Vol 2 (RRP £24.99) – features the Van Halen version of the Kinks classic You Really Got Me from their debut album. This track was responsible for jump starting Van Halen’s career. Also taken from this album is I’m The One. Jamie then moves to Van Halen’s second album and takes a look at the concert staple Beautiful Girls. Their fourth album is regarded by many as their best and the DVD guitar lesson looks at the opening track Mean Streets. Finally you can study Drop Dead Legs from Van Halen’s most popular sixth album MCMLXXXIV (1984).

As you look at each track with Jamie, he will break it down into small manageable pieces, playing it slowly, then up’ing the tempo to a medium one before playing it up to tempo. All the time, because it is a Lick Library guitar lesson, you can see what both of Jamie’s hands are doing with the familiar split screen. Jamie talks you through the techniques needed to nail that two handed tapping so indicative of Eddie Van Halen’s guitar playing, and get that Van Halen feel in your playing.
