E-MU Announces 7GB Grand Piano Sound Library For Emulator X And Proteus X
Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

E-MU® Systems has announced its new Platinum 88 Grand Piano Sound Library that offers Emulator X and Proteus X users over 7GB of 24-bit grand piano samples.

Using a meticulously sampled Steinway Model L concert grand piano, the Platinum 88 features twelve layers of samples for each of the piano’s 88 notes: five layers with the sustain pedal up, six with the sustain pedal down, and a layer entirely dedicated to note-off sounds.

Every note was recorded through its natural delay, enabling the Platinum 88 bank to be completely free of loops. The samples were then mapped to their proper key and velocity positions in Emulator X and Proteus X and programmed with Pedals and Continuous Controllers.

Also included are 1GB and 200MB 16-bit versions of the piano for ultimate sequencing flexibility and optimized performance. The Platinum 88 is priced at $149.99 and available from E-MU Dealers and direct at www.emu.com.

Unitonic Releases New Lower-Priced Version Of Aurora Soft Synth
Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

Unitonic™ today announced the availability of a special low-priced configuration of Aurora, their powerful software synth for Pro Tools TDM. Called Aurora/PT Standard, this new configuration offers support for the HD DSP chips found on Pro Tools|HD® systems at a suggested retail price of US$399. [Aurora's full-featured version has been renamed Aurora/PT Prime. This configuration supports instances running on both HD and Accel DSP chips found on Pro Tools|HD Accel systems.]

Aurora/PT Standard is a true TDM synth plug-in, which means every HD DSP chip on a Pro Tools|HD® or HD® Accel systems can run a separate instance of the synth for near-zero latency recording and playback in a multi-track Session. The PT Standard version also comes with Aurora’s acclaimed preset library, with patches that range from earth-shaking basses and big, modular-style sounds to expressive acoustic/synth hybrids with rich, natural tones.

Aurora/PT Standard and Aurora/PT Prime are both available for download from the Unitonic website or from any authorized Pro Tools dealer. Currently, Aurora supports Digidesign® Pro Tools|HD® and Pro Tools|HD® Accel systems running on the Macintosh platform only. An update supporting the Windows XP platform is scheduled for release in 2006.

System Requirements
Mac-based Digidesign Pro Tools TDM system with HD® or HD® Accel hardware, running Pro Tools 6.0 or newer software. A PACE iLok USB Smart Key (purchased separately) and an iLok.com account are also required for licensing.

Radikal Technologies Announces Update For Spectralis Synthesizer
Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

Radikal Technologies’ has announced an update to the Spectralis Synthesizer.

The already powerful Hybrid Synth now sports three independent monophonic synths, which the user can configure freely from the array of available sound modules of the sound engine.

A bunch of new features have been added to the Step-Sequencer which can now even be used to trigger and control external MIDI and Software instruments. The number of available Step Sequencer lines has doubled from 16 to 32. These sequencer lines are now enabled not only to control the Hybrid Synth and the MIDI Instruments but also the Sample Engine of the Spectralis.

Due to the brand new open routing of the lines parameters such as the FM-or phasemodulation-depth, filter resonance or even exotic parameters like the Time Linearity Modulation can now also be controlled with sequencer lines of up to 192 steps. Also new is a switchable Glide-function, which in addition to the previous hard step value changes and the popular step envelopes now also allows for buttery soft transitions when used to control parameters.

The step sequencer is not the only section of the Spectralis able to control external instruments. Any Part of the Spectralis can be selectively assigned to the MIDI-Out port. This means that even the powerful Drumgrid Editor can be used with connected sound sources. When a new song is selected the Spectralis can also automatically set the outside instruments to the proper sound programs and adjust their volume and panorama positions.

A very special new feature is the Random Sound Generator, which can deliver an almost infinite number of new, surprising and instantly usable Sounds. We should mention that a Hold Parameter has been added to the Hybrid Synthesizer Envelopes. Of course there are also a bunch of smaller modifications and tweaks to further improve the Spectralis’ functionality and user friendliness.
